Yesterday we went to Judy and Nathan’s cattle ranch to help out agai. This time it was the calfes that needed their vaccine, tag and Brand.
I’ll give them this, cows are easier to heard than sheep, because they are way slower and in my opinion a bit dummer.
Once they had sorted all the calfs from the cows the work could begin.
The idea was to catch one calf at a time and then get everything done while holding the calf down.
Even though the calfs were young and small, they were still kinda big and strong. Being use to only sheep this was new for both me and John.
The idea was that you were soppose to catch the calf by its neck and then grab infront of it’s back leg to tip it over.
Seams pretty simple. But well, it wasn’t.
John really hit the mud trying to catch this one, as you can see his entire back got in the mud.
But he ensured me that it didn’t hurt.
It had been raining the day before so their was a lot of mud.
John had been trying to catch number 24 for a long time and guess what. He got it at last. It helps to be stubborn sometimes.
It wasn’t really enough only one person holding the calf down there had to be eigther 2 or 3 holding it. Since they really are that strong.
The Australien Cattle Dogs tryed to help. They actually remind me a bit of border collies, only shorter and way shorter tails.
This farms brand. I wasn’t wrestleing cows, my job was the same as the last time, vaccination of the calfs.
Since we had never tried a turkey dinner before, I had to try everything! And it was SO good. Even the stuffing was delishous.
I’m thankfull we got invited and we sure had a wonderful time, with really nice people.
