Faroese Summer – Hay Day

image

As a farmer family, a big part of the summer includes farming. Right now it’s haying season and that means a lot of hard work in a short time.

Since we have no machines, except the walking traktor for cutting, we do everything else by hand. Raking for the most part.

On Tuesday the weather was just perfect for haying. The sun was out, windy and no rain, at least for the most part.

Fortunately we were a lot of people and got some good help from workawayers. So we got everything in, in a day. My mother said that she couldn’t remember it being that many people haying ever.

Lady had lots of fun chasing butterflies. But sometimes she needed a break.

My grandmother had made faroese pancakes, so we made room for a break. Since they are one of the best deserts you could think of.

But then the rain was on it’s way and we needed to hurry up.

Get everything into big piles.

Into bags and on the truck.

With the hot driver.

Down to the barn to get dryed completely. As we have a motor to blow air through the hay.
All in all we had a good day, although exhausting.
